Kibale Forest national park is the best national park in Uganda to do chimpanzee trekking, the park covers an area of 795 square  kilometers with varied tracts of tropical rain forests and 13 species of primates which make it a primate capital of East Africa. The park is a home to the largest population of chimpanzees in East Africa with more than 1,450 chimpanzees protected inside the forest.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Kibale National Park

Leave Kampala for Kibale Forest. Your driver-guide will pick you up upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel, you will drive through the countryside enjoying the remarkable landscapes, traditional home and get a glimpse of different bird species. You will have a stopover for lunch in Fort Portal Town- the tourism capital of Uganda and its beautiful landscapes and attractions. You will arrive in the park in the evening, check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Alternatively you can take a chartered/domestic flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kasese airstrip from where you will be picked up and transfer to the lodge.

Drive time – 5 hours or Scheduled Flight – 1 hours and 35 minutes

Day 2: Chimpanzees trekking in Kibale national park

Chimpanzee trekking: after breakfast, you will transfer to the briefing center where will receive your chimpanzee trekking, register, be allocation a group to trek and be taken through the rules and regulations to follow. With a guidance of a ranger guide, you will set off into the forests of Kibale looking for chimpanzees. The experience takes approximately 2-3 hours depending on the movement of chimpanzees and when you locate them, you will have an opportunity to watch them in their natural habitat as they swing from the tree branches in the canopy, feed, play and rest. You will also take amazing pictures as long as your flashlight is off. Return to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you will head to Bigodi village where you will visit the swamp which is a home to abundant butterflies, plant species and animals, some of the birds you will enjoy watching include the Great Blue Turaco among others. You will also have a coffee experience, learn how they make banana beer and visit a traditional healer in the village. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: End of the Uganda chimpanzee trekking tour

After breakfast, you will checkout of the lodge and embark on a journey back to Kampala, you will have en-route lunch and when you arrive you will be dropped off at the airport for your departure flight back home.
