4 Days Uganda Gorilla and Golden Monkey Safari is a Uganda primate safari taking you on a safari visit to Mgahinga Gorilla national park the smallest park in Uganda and a home to mountain gorillas and golden monkeys.

Mgahinga Gorilla national park stretches around the 3 volcanoes of Virunga chain that are Sabyinyo, Gahinga and Muhavura.

On this safari you will do Mountain gorilla trekking experience on which you will come in contact with the critically endangered mountain gorillas and golden monkey tracking on which you will meet the playful and charming golden monkeys.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport or after breakfast at your hotel in Kampala, you will be picked by our safari driver – guide, after a short briefing about the safari you will embark on a journey to south western Uganda – Kisoro.

Along the way you will have lunch in Mbarara and then proceed to Kisoro – the Switzerland of Uganda where you will enjoy magnificent views of green terraced hill arriving in the park in the evening, check into your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

  Alternatively, you can take a flight from Entebbe International Airport to Kisoro Airstrip.

Note:  chartered/domestic flights to Mgahinga Gorilla national park are only morning flights and they base on the weather conditions of Kisoro area.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla national park

Mountain gorilla trekking – wake up early for breakfast and transfer to the park’s headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking, a ranger will take you through rules and regulations to follow during the activity, you will be grouped into 8 people and then head into the forests looking for mountain gorillas.

The trek takes approximately 4-6 hours depending on the movement of the mountain gorillas and where they spent their previous night, once you locate the gorillas, you will spend one hour in their presence watching them interact with each other and feeding. After one hour, you will descend back to the briefing point where you will be rewarded with gorilla trekking permits and then return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Golden Monkey trekking in Mgahinga gorilla national park

Golden Monkey trekking – after breakfast you will return to the park’s headquarters for briefing about golden monkey trekking conducted by ranger guide who will share with you information and how to behave while in the wild.

You will hike into the jungle looking for golden monkeys, during the hike you will be able to meet forest animals such as wild buffaloes and elephants and once you locate the golden monkeys, you will enjoy watching them feed on bamboo shoots, vegetation, fruits and ants.  You will spend one hour in the presence of golden monkeys and then hike back to the park’s headquarters and return to your lodge for an evening of rest. Have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Departure via Kigali or Entebbe

After breakfast and exploring Mgahinga Gorilla national park, you bid farewell and embark on a journey back to Kampala where you will be dropped off either at the hotel or at airport for your departure back home.
