This 3 Days Gorilla Safari in Rwanda takes you on an adventurous trip to Volcanoes national park also known as the Parc Des Volcans in French, the park is a habitat to the endangered mountain gorillas living in the forested volcanoes.

Gorilla trekking is carried out within the Volcanoes situated along the Rwandan border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, gorilla trekking involves hiking through the verdant rainforest in search for the gorillas and you will trek only one gorilla family per day.

Detailed itinerary of 3 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari

Day 1: City Tour and transfer to the Volcanoes National Park

On arrival at Kigali International Airport in Kigali City, you will be warmly welcomed and picked up by our guide driver and transfer to Kigali City for a city tour in the cleanest city in East Africa.

Kigali City and Rwanda at large is dominated by numerous hills that is why it is referred to as a land of a thousand hills, during the city tour you will visit the Genocide Memorial Center where you will learn about the genesis of the horrific Rwanda genocide of 1994. You will also visit the National Museum and many other eye-catching sites within and around the city.

You will then have lunch and depart for Volcanoes national park, a well-known habitat for the endangered mountain gorillas. You will arrive in the park in late evening, proceed to check into your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Rwanda

Have early breakfast and transfer to the Park Headquarters in Kingi for a briefing session regarding gorilla trekking which is done by the park rangers. You will be assigned a gorilla group to trek and in groups of 8 people, you will hike through the verdant jungle looking for mountain gorillas.

Gorilla trekking experience takes approximately 2-6 hours depending on the movement of gorillas and where they spent the previous night, gorilla trekking requires visitors to have some amount of physical fitness which is needed since the activity involves climbing a number of hills.

When you find the gorillas, you are to stay in their presence for one hour while watching them go on their daily life, mothers taking care for the young, juveniles playing and feeding. Tourists are required to keep a good distance while watching the gorillas, while taking pictures make sure your flashlight is off.

After trekking, you will head back to the lodge for relaxation. If you still have some energy, you will have a nature walk to the beautiful twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo and also have a cultural walk to interact with the local people, be entertained by local dances and drama. Later return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking  

After breakfast, you will forests of Volcanoes national park for an encounter with the golden monkeys, you will have a briefing session and trek into the forest looking for the golden monkeys which you will find in the bamboo trees.

When you find them, you will watch them play on tree branches and take amazing pictures of them.

You will head back to your lodge for lunch and then checkout and embark on a journey back to Kigali City, be dropped at the airport for your flight back home.
