3 Days Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking Safari : The Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking Safari will provide you with the best opportunity to experience primates in Rwanda. In light of the fact that not every Rwandan visitor can afford to participate in gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park, many prefer to participate in chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe national park because it is more budget-friendly.
As part of your 3 Days Chimpanzee Trekking Safari in Nyungwe National Park, you will be able to observe habituated chimpanzees in Nyungwe forest as well as embark on an adventurous hike along the canopy walkway.
During your stay, you will also participate in a community cultural tour to the Gisakura tea estate, where you will tour the plantations and taste some of Rwanda’s finest teas.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Pickup in Kigali and Transfer to Nyungwe National Park.
Our guide will pick you up from Kigali’s international airport on Day 1 of the Nyungwe Chimpanzee Trekking Safari. After a brief meet and greet session, you will embark on a tour of Kigali city where you will visit cultural and historical sites such as the Kigali Genocide Memorial, the Umusambi Crane Village, and the Camp Kigali Memorial Center.
Upon completion of your tour of Kigali City, enjoy lunch and make your way to Akagera National Park.
The distance between Nyungwe Forest National Park and your home is 268 kilometers. It takes about four to six hours for this journey to be completed, which takes you through Rwanda’s beautiful and terraced rolling hills.
Upon your arrival in the park, Check into your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking & Visit Gisakura Tea Estate.
After breakfast, proceed to the park’s headquarters in Uwinka, where you will be briefed by the park’s head ranger and divided into trekking groups of 8 members each.

Chimpanzee Trekking
A chimpanzee trekking experience in Nyungwe forest national park begins at exactly 8 a.m., so make sure to arrive at the Uwinka center by 7 a.m.
Tracking chimps in the forest may also provide the opportunity to observe other monkey species, such as the black and white colobus monkey, the red-tailed monkey, the golden monkey, etc.
Once you have completed your chimp trekking activity, you will have your packed lunch. Alternatively, you can drive back to your lodge for lunch and rest for a while.
After dinner, you may wish to visit the Gisakura Tea estate. During this experience, you will be guided through the process of growing, harvesting, processing, and packaging tea. You will even get to taste the delicious taste of the final product.
Return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Canopy Walkway & Transfer back to Kigali.
Get up early in the morning, eat breakfast, and head back to the park’s headquarters at Uwinka Centre. From here, you will begin your hike along the Canopy Walkway.
This canopy walkway is 90 meters in length and 50 meters in height. During your journey through the canopy walkways, you will be able to see the forest from a bird’s eye view, and you will also experience an adrenalin rush through your spine as you traverse the 200m length of the walkways in the forest canopy.
The canopy walkway bridge is an excellent place to take photographs and observe the wildlife of the forest, such as Black and White colobus monkeys, vervet monkeys, chimpanzees, and even different kinds of bird species that inhabit Nyungwe’s canopy walkway.
Later drive back to your lodge for lunch.
The guide/driver will drive you back to Kigali city where you can be dropped off at any hotel of your choice in the city, or at Kigali airport depending on your departure time.
