Detailed Itinerary for the 2 Days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking safari
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Drive to Ruhengeri.
After you have arrived at Kigali International Airport, you will be picked up by a guide from Explore Rwanda Tours who will introduce himself to you. Your guide will then drive you from the airport to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, which is located about 30 minutes away from the airport.
Following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi people of Rwanda, approximately 250,000 Rwandans were buried at the genocide memorial grounds.
During the genocide in Kigali, the Kigali Genocide Memorial served as both an educational and a reminder center.
Furthermore, it is an initiative that spreads the message of love and peace irrespective of ethnicity. Other interesting places that you can visit during your city tour include; Camp Kigali, Nyamirambo Women’s Center, Caplaki Craft Village and also Kimironko market to mention but a few.
The transfer to Ruhengeri takes approximately one to two hours from Kigali Genocide Memorial. You will have lunch in Kigali before visiting Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri, approximately an hour drive away. Check into your lodge for dinner and accommodation.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park & Drive back to Kigali.
In the morning, you will enjoy a hearty breakfast at your Lodge’s restaurant before being picked up by your safari guide and driven 30 minutes to Volcanoes National Park.
During your visit to the Park’s office, you will be briefed by the park’s head ranger regarding the park’s rules and regulations, including gorilla tracking regulations.

Following this briefing, the head ranger will place you in groups according to which gorilla family group you prefer to track. A Mountain Gorilla belongs to one of the seven habituated family groups, so they are quite tolerant of humans. It could take about 1- 8 hours to track a gorilla group depending on how easily they are located. Upon finding a gorilla group, you will be allowed an hour with the animals. After your gorilla trekking experience, you can enjoy your packed lunch.
Today marks the last day of your 2 days Rwanda Gorilla Trekking safari with us! After breakfast, you can check out of your hotel at your leisure and then have a leisurely morning.
On arrival in Kigali, your guide will provide you with a transfer back to the city where, upon your arrival, you will have the option of embarking on a brief tour of the city during your stay.
At the end of the tour, you’ll get the chance to visit the places that you missed at the beginning. Later, you can have your guide drop you off at the airport where you will board your flight back home.
