Detailed itinerary of 1 Day Gorilla Trekking Safari In Rwanda

Wake up early in the morning, have breakfast and at 04:30 am you will be picked up by your safari driver guide and transfer to Volcanoes national Park in Ruhengeri, Musanze Province. From Kigali City, it is a drive of approximately 2 hours to Volcanoes national park a habitat to the endangered Mountain Gorillas.

Along the way, you will take amazing pictures from different stopovers along the journey and at exactly you will join other trekkers at Kinigi – Park’s headquarters for briefing about the rules and regulations to follows. The briefing is conducted by a ranger guide, you will then be grouped into 8 people and be assigned a gorilla group to trek, then hike into the forests of Volcanoes national park looking for mountain gorillas. Then trek into the forests looking for mountain gorillas.

The trek takes approximately 2-6 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent the previous night, the hike is quite strenuous but very more rewarding once you come face to face to mountain gorillas, gorilla families are headed by silverbacks and you will watch them carry on their day to day routine such as the juveniles play, mothers feed their young ones and the silverback and take amazing pictures.

Later return to the park’s headquarters, meet your driver guide and transfer back to Kigali after lunch, you will be dropped off at the airport for your departure flight or at the hotel in Kigali.

Many travelers wonder if it is possible to see the gorillas in a day, the answer is Yes, you can track the gorillas in a single and then after transfer back to the airport for your flight.

What makes this more possible is that Kigali International Airport is situated close to Kigali International Airport the main entrance and exit point of Rwanda. From the airport it is a drive of approximately 2 hours on paved roads, gorilla trekking experience start at 08:30 am and all trekkers must assemble at the park’s headquarters in groups of 8 people for briefing.

Ranger guides take you through the rules and regulations to follow lasting for 45 minutes, you will also be assigned a gorilla group to trek and then trek into the forests looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes about 2-6 hours depending on the gorilla family you are assigned to and you will stay in their presence for 1 hour.
